Scissors and a comb working the side of a man's head during a classic men's haircut

A good men’s haircut is mostly listening. What you do for work, how much time you give your hair in the morning, whether you want to be back in four weeks or eight. Josh asks those questions first, then cuts.

What a cut with Josh looks like

You sit down and talk through what you are after. If you have a photo, show it. If you do not, describe how you want it to sit and Josh will work out the rest from your hair type and how it grows.

The cut itself is done with scissors, clippers or both, depending on the style. Short back and sides, crops, textured tops, a classic side part, longer layered cuts. Every cut finishes with the neckline and around the ears tidied and a quick style with product so you can see how it sits before you leave.

You get told what was done and how to keep it looking that way at home. No upsell, just the honest version.

Styles Josh cuts most

  • Short back and sides. The everyday cut. Clean at the sides, enough length on top to style or leave.
  • Textured crops. Short, low maintenance, works well on thick or wavy hair.
  • Scissor cuts. For anyone who wants length kept and shape added rather than clippers up the side.
  • Side parts and classic cuts. Tighter sides, a defined part, styled with a light product.
  • Longer styles. Shoulder length trims, layers and shape-ups.

Not sure what to call the result you have in mind? The men’s haircut styles guide compares short cuts, fades, classic shapes, longer flow styles and shape-led restyles, with practical notes on upkeep and reference photos.

If your cut needs a fade, that is its own thing. Read about skin fades and book the two together.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

§01 Do I need to book, or can I walk in?
Booking is the safe option. Josh works one chair, so a booked slot means you sit down at the time you asked for rather than waiting. If you are passing and want to try your luck, give him a call first and he will tell you honestly whether there is a gap.
§02 How long does a men's haircut take?
Most cuts sit somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes depending on what is being done. A tidy-up on an existing style is quicker. A restyle, a fade or a cut with a beard trim on top takes longer. Say what you want when you book and Josh will set aside the right amount of time.
§03 What if I do not know what I want?
That is fine and it is common. Tell Josh how you wear your hair day to day, how often you want to be back in the chair, and whether you use product. Photos help if you have them. He will suggest something that suits your head shape and your hair type, and he will tell you if what you are asking for will not work on your hair.
§04 Do you cut long hair?
Yes. Longer men's styles, shoulder length trims and shape-ups are all cuts Josh does. If it is a big change, mention it when you book so there is enough time.
